Une start-up lanc\u00e9e par un \u00e9tudiant de l\u2019EPFL d\u00e9veloppe un planeur ultral\u00e9ger leur permettant de revenir automatiquement au point de lancement.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Lanc\u00e9s deux fois par jour dans de nombreux pays, les ballons-sondes sont une composante importante des pr\u00e9visions m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques et de l\u2019am\u00e9lioration des mod\u00e8les climatiques. Au cours de leur ascension de pr\u00e8s de deux heures vers la stratosph\u00e8re, les capteurs transport\u00e9s fournissent des mesures des vents, de la temp\u00e9rature, de la pression ou encore de l\u2019humidit\u00e9 \u00e0 diff\u00e9rentes altitudes. \u00c0 pr\u00e8s de 35&rsquo;000 m, la faible pression finit par faire exploser le ballon g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement gonfl\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne, larguant les sondes qui se perdent dans la nature au gr\u00e9 des courants d\u2019air : parfois dans l\u2019eau, dans des endroits inaccessibles \u00e0 l\u2019humain ou trop \u00e9loign\u00e9s. Environ 80 % des quelque 600&rsquo;000 sondes lanc\u00e9es chaque ann\u00e9e dans le monde et contenant des piles, des composants \u00e9lectroniques et du plastique, ne sont jamais retrouv\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Un \u00e9tudiant de Master de l\u2019EPFL a mis au point une parade : un syst\u00e8me qui les ram\u00e8ne automatiquement \u00e0 un point pr\u00e9d\u00e9fini. D\u00e9j\u00e0 test\u00e9 par M\u00e9t\u00e9oSuisse cet \u00e9t\u00e9, le dispositif int\u00e9resse d\u2019autres organismes de m\u00e9t\u00e9orologie dans le monde. \u00ab La France, l\u2019Angleterre, l\u2019Allemagne, la Croatie et le Canada souhaitent effectuer des campagnes de tests \u00bb, \u00e9num\u00e8re Yohan Hadji, qui vient de fonder une start-up autour de son travail : R2Home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Un algorithme qui prend en compte les vents mesur\u00e9s \u00e0 la mont\u00e9e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pour retrouver leur chemin, les sondes sont embarqu\u00e9es dans un petit planeur en mousse dot\u00e9 d\u2019un syst\u00e8me de guidage. Le tout, toujours tract\u00e9 par les ballons pour la mont\u00e9e, fait un poids de 250 grammes. \u00ab C&rsquo;est une sonde m\u00e9t\u00e9o normale dans une boite en forme d&rsquo;ailes, r\u00e9sume le jeune entrepreneur. Le syst\u00e8me est suffisamment petit et l\u00e9ger pour rentrer dans la m\u00eame cat\u00e9gorie que les sondes classiques selon les crit\u00e8res de l&rsquo;Office f\u00e9d\u00e9ral de l\u2019aviation civile (OFAC) \u00bb. Les algorithmes de guidage calculent la trajectoire id\u00e9ale et contr\u00f4lent l\u2019engin pour qu\u2019il retourne au lieu du d\u00e9collage ou tout autre point pr\u00e9d\u00e9fini, enregistr\u00e9 par le GPS.
